About to launch a new program, on “Building Your Own Brand Foundation” (that’s what it’s entitled) is a 200+ page book on to build your own brand, based on my 15 year experience in working with Fortune 100 and 500 that are very large companies, Fortune 1000 are much smaller comapanies.
However, what I’ve learned over the years, is that if you could look at how a very large brand functions, what it represents, how it is constructed, of what it is comprised, you would probably not be surprised. However, if you then looked at a very small brand, again from the inside, you would discover, to your amazement, that both look very similar
That means small brands can learn from large brands. And, it makes my job quite a bit easier, because if High School Coaches can learn from NFL brands, then we can work with the largest and most popular brands in our society, and both learn something.
I was challenged by wanting to use popular web brands to illustrate my stories and anecdotes and the real life they have. Why am I challenged? Because if you are told a story about a web brand, it is absolutely pointless to do so, because if the listener does not really know the brand, is not sure what it’s website looks like, how they treat their brand, what do they do with it, how do ehty use it?
I tried doing this when I was doing some speaking more often. I learned that the majority of people did not know the brands I was talking about.
WebMD was easy, but so many others were not. I’d mention the domain name. People’s heads would turn, “Do you know that site?” And the answer would be “Yes.” But, the other person did not have any facts. Here we go, a Pointless Story!
By the way, I’ll interrupt myself.
When you give this to Jack, please tell him I was listening to his interview with Michael Fortin, and was surprised to learn is all 3 of us are drummers. Go figure. I could read drum music before I could read a whole sentence of English.
So, anyway, I use truly popular brands in all businesses, the web, beverages, stores, quick-service food, clothing, cars, airlines, etc., etc. However, I don’t use Frontier Airlines. Instead I’ll use American or United Airlines, or really the best one to use is Southwest. Many, many people know it. That way, everybody gets every story, at least if they’re from the U.S. From elsewhere in the world, I’ve used syndicated TV shows to make my point–because TV shows are just like a Brand, but that’s another story.
I like to take brands apart and fix them from the inside. I have a strange assortment of tools and techniques.
I’d be happy to talk about my new program, GuideBook and Multi-Media Online Course. I’ve engaged a Curriculum person and an Instructive Technologies person. They are both very experienced and very knowledgeable. I’m learning a great deal about the Education part of this buisness, as opposed to only the Consulting side of it.
If I can answer any questions, or provide information about some aspect of what I’m doing, please give me a buzz.
http://www.allcustomcontent.com was a site Fortin mentioned that I want to keep track of.
Thanks - and have a good day.
