Wake Up Call: Web 2.0 Wouldn’t Exist Without Marketers

July 19, 2008

Mashable writer has ass handed to him by John Reese.

I enjoy Mashable for discovering new social sites and all, but this guy had it coming and John Reese puts forth an excellent, eloquent argument against the anti-marketers of the web. Read it!

Site of the Day

July 7, 2008

I feel like Stephen Colbert, just adding a segment to FTR like it is an ongoing and scheduled segment.  “Site of the Day” seemed like a good one to start.  Maybe I will keep up with it, maybe not.  But today’s pick deserves SOTD recognition.

Original Signal is a must-bookmark, must-follow Web 2.0 news site!

It aggregates news from sites like Mashable and TechCrunch and, what it calls, “the best web 2.0 blogs” out there.  Though my blog is missing from their list, I’m still recommending them.  That’s how I roll.

Really, there are at least 3 articles on the front page today you should find hyper-interesting if you are at all into social marketing and web 2.0 news.

Blogging Resources Lists from Mashable

October 21, 2007

You can’t beat Mashable for blogging resources lists.  I haven’t found any other bigger single source of seemingly endless resources for bloggers.

Here are some highlights from Mashable:

  • Big list of resources for bloggers:  Bloggers Toolbox
  • Big List of Wordpress 3 Column Themes
  • 40+ Free Blog Hosts  (Web benders know what to do)
  • Pay VERY VERY special attention to the top Wordpress plugins on this next list.  Without spoiling the fun, the first plugins should give you serious ideas about keeping remote blogs updated.
  • Social Network Aggregators:  Grab your social network membership “mess” by the throat and put all your logins and networks together.
  • 50+ Wordpress plugins JUST for multi media:  Choose wisely.  No one needs 50 plugins running period on their Wordpress blog unless you want it to “run” like cold molasses in the winter.
  • 40+ FireFox Add Ons for Speed Blogging:  Again, no you shouldn’t install 40 add ons to your FireFox browser unless you want it to load in less than a day.  And again, web benders will know exactly what to do with many of these tools!

Authority Black Book Ranked #1 by Mashable

October 2, 2007

Mashable now officially rocks hard!

In a recent post Mashable (Alexa: 1098) ranked the top ten ebooks for bloggers starting with the Black Book.

With in excess of 5 million monthly pageviews, Mashable is the world’s largest blog on social networking. -Mashable

They are also #8 on Technorati’s Popular Blogs list. Any questions?

Now, that might not be so impressive on it’s own, but guess who shows up first on the list of the top ten free ebooks for bloggers? Pay particular attention to the company on this list…

  1. Authority Black Book
  2. Beginner’s Guide to Search Engine Optimization by SEOMoz.org
  3. BlogBash: Deep Secrets of Successful Blogging
  4. Blog Profits Blueprint - Yaro Starak (A GREAT guide!)
  5. Dive Into Web 2.0
  6. Handbook for Bloggers and Cyber Dissidents - Reporters Without Borders
  7. Make Money Online with John Chow
  8. Unleashing the Idea Virus - Seth Freakin Godin!
  9. Web Style Guide
  10. Who’s There? - Seth Freakin Godin AGAIN!

Maybe the list is going in reverse order, I say to myself. Then I cheer up and realize, Authority Black Book is the first one people see no matter what and that means everything in clicks!

Thanks guys! By the way, it’s “Jack” not “Jake” but you can call me whatever you want.

Hardcore Visitor Session Tracking Service Launches at Web 2.0 Expo

April 15, 2007

RobotReplay makes 99% of visitor session tracking programs look like yesterday’s news.

Kristen Nicole reports for Mashable from the Web 2.0 Expo that “RobotReplay will track your site visitors’ key strokes, show how long they stay on each page, how far they scroll down, and a handful of other tracking metrics.”

She goes on to say that “The biggest feature for RobotReplay is their use of Ajax to play back visitor actions on the live site as opposed to showing them in a recorded movie format.”

Wonder what you might learn about your visitors and site performance watching someone’s visit play out before you?
