My top Social Power Linking traffic sources last week…

February 26, 2007

Scanning my log files I noticed some traffic sources, other than search engines, pushing more traffic than others last week.

Telling you about my top producers should help you to get into Social Power Linking more knowing what is working rather than fumbling around trying out everything yourself.

I try them all, so I will continue reporting on what’s working so you can save some time and focus only on producers.

1.  StumbleUpon.com

This site is simple.  You get a toolbar button when you sign up and you can “Like” or “Dislike” any site or page you wish.  You can mark up your pages, but it is also good to vote for other sites in your niche for research purposes.

This is helpful because StumbleUpon.com creates a track record of your surfing habits and you can “Stumble” to new sites and resources you’ve never seen before to keep up on your niche.

2.  PlugIM.com

I’ve mentioned these guys before, but they continue to send me traffic as I post “stories” (like this post) on their Digg-style site.  Everytime I post there I get trafficf and it takes literally under a minute.

I do this everytime I post.

3.  MarkTD.com

Same thing as above.  Both are for marketing content, but sites like this are popping up all over the place and will continue to do so over the next year.  You should be able to find sites like these in your niche now or soon.

I like these kinds of sites so much I made one for the Friday Traffic Report.

If you have marketing related content, put my IMNews on your list to post to often.

It’s brand new and most categories have nothing in them, but as you can see, I am sending traffic over there and it will fill up and start  generating good targeted traffic on its own very soon.

It would pay to be the first in a category!

Spicy Page: Another Good Targeted Traffic Source?

January 18, 2007

I called it with Marktd.com. Supported them when they first started and now they are taking off.

I called it with MyBlogLog.com and they are REALLY taking off!

I am going to do it again with SpicyPage.com.

You will see on the lower left sidebar that I have their widget installed. Go ahead and click to vote and see what happens.

You’ll get the idea of how they work. It is like Digg with the voting system but it is a big blog engine with lots of neat features I haven’t seen in this type of community before.

I am betting this site takes off. It’s a good bet since some major players are listed and active there already such as TechCrunch.com and Yahoo.

Check it out - vote for the FTR!

We’ll see how fast we can help them grow so they can attract more visitors to our blogs!

Getting Links: Investing in new sites reaps rewards!

October 2, 2006

This is a tactic for [TAG]getting links[/TAG] that I have used for years.

Supporting new sites, especially the types of sites that are hot right now like [TAG]social networking[/TAG] sites, is not a 100% guaranteed return on your time invested, but when they pay off they pay off big!

Spotting potential winners and investing the time in setting up with them before they take off, whatever kind of site they may be as long as they are relevant to mine.

Case in Point: Marktd.com

I found this site early on when it was just getting started. I found it to be promising because it was the only site like Digg.com but specifically for marketers and online businesses.

The uniqueness of it and some other factors that led me to believe the owner was really into this site and dedicated to its success.

I took a chance and started posting “stories” there, banking on it becoming a high traffic site. I also started promoting the site actively on conference calls and training.

If you don’t help the site grow by telling others about it, you are just sitting there sucking whatever you can out of a startup and giving nothing in return. Bad investment protection plan!

This gamble paid off. Now MarkTD has great pagerank and I am seeing more and more traffic from the stories I post there.

Lesson: Do not ignore new sites because they currently have no traffic to offer you. Be careful how much time you spend “investing” in new sites because most still fail or move very slowly.

But do take advantage of new sites that seem to be on the right track because when they explode, the [TAG]free targeted traffic[/TAG] they send you can be enormous. But for people just discovering and using them after they go big, often it is not as easy to get in and get as much out of them.

Another gamble I have taken is Seth Godin’s Squidoo. I put up a lens there and am getting trickles of traffic so far. I expect I have put my “money” in the right place though because Seth is no slouch at drumming up publicity.

The other benefit from adopting sites like this early is you get to post or blog to an account where your main keyword is still available.

Example: My Squidoo lens address is http://www.squidoo.com/websitepromotion. Want that URL? Can’t have it. It’s mine forever.
That is going to be an awesome link when they take off. Or not.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.
