Google Ingoring Your Directory Listings?

by Jack Humphrey on Oct 7

I found an interesting story covering Google’s apparent disregard for blog directories of late. Once again, Google shows links are for traffic above all else.

Blog Marketing Journal: “There are a lot website owners, and even more bloggers, who seem to be getting the jitters over Google’s apparent change of heart over blog directories, or directories in general. Google used to recommend directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo! - not any more.” Read more…

I think Google won’t disregards all links from directories, but certainly they are not as effective as it does…

Lets hope this is not true or long lived. Google likes to keep us social marketers on our toes!

As an SEO/SEM firm, we do a fair bit of directory link submitting for our clients as a way to boost their links, and I can definitely confirm that the value of those links has been steadily dropping in the last 6 months.

In fact, with 1 recent client, we submitted individual link requests to over 400 search engine friendly directories in this year, and less than 30 links now show up in Yahoo Site Explorer!

A pretty sad state of affairs eh?

Guess it’s back to quality content creation & publication again eh? :-) lol

Seriously though, MOST directories are a waste of time these days. Useful perhaps for getting a new site spidered, but not worth too much time & effort for valuable link building.

If you thought u could cheat the system, you were wrong!
