Checking up on TeenCheckup.com

by Jack Humphrey on Oct 7

Internet safety is a big topic for parents. That’s why we chose it for our first blog network site, TeenCheckup.com. So in a big market, is it possible to only have 40 visitors per day if you’ve written over 100 great, original articles in the span of 1 month?

Yes, and I’ll tell you exactly why:

1. While we have great writers, we haven’t implemented much in the marketing of the site yet.
2. “If you build it, they will come” has been an outdated philosophy and practice on the web for some time now. And we’ve proven the point.

So what are we doing about it?

While we’ve had some really big days for a new site (700+ visits on a few days from StumbleUpon and other social sites) we haven’t gotten to the point of having major growth in daily visitor average.

This is because we have only lightly touched on marketing the site with social media.

That’s changing this month, and I know I will be able to report at least getting over the 100 visitor per day hump in the next update.

More Schmoozing Needed

Something else we’ve yet to implement, but now have the content base to do so, is old fashioned schmoozing. By having our writers and close fans comment on other teen related blogs, we are building rapport with the blog owners.

We will then devise crafty ways to get featured or linked by those bloggers. We always come to the table with something to give before we ask, so expect some of our ploys to include a review exchange, free advertising on the site, and certainly blogroll linking.

We’ll also throw traffic their way via our team at NSM and getting them reviewed by bloggers bigger than TeenCheckup.com that we know will want good sites to review.

Getting There Faster

“Getting there” faster means skipping the shy-blogger bit and going right to the people who can change everything overnight with one nod in your direction from their site.

This means deal-making. This means being smarter than the average bear.

I’ll be back to talk about how and exactly what we implemented in order to achieve the daily visitor goal we have set for this time next month.

This is so interesting to see the evolution of niche site like this. I am always the “shy blogger” like you said – I never want to ask for anything in return. This makes me excited to get over that! lol.

I am excited to see the growth of this site as I too am only 3 months old in the blogging world!

I will be watching and learning! Thanks.

I put up teencop.com last year, but have not had time to work on it. Of course no traffic. Looked yours over and got a few ideas and a little inspired. Now if I can find the time!
