Myspace Marketing Tactic

April 7, 2008

Remember Myspace? I have found a marketer who still uses it with great success. I know, crazy huh?

I’d blow this post off if that marketer wasn’t Stephen Pierce. He doesn’t have time to mess around with marketing tactics that don’t pull traffic. If you know who Stephen Pierce is, you know that’s a fact.

In today’s DTAlpha talkback podcast, Stephen outlines a Myspace marketing tactic that many overlook. And it works!

I figure since we spent so much time on Facebook last week, and as much as I make fun of Myspace every chance I get (because I am a social marketing snob), it would be fair to give little old Myspace a break and point out that there is still traffic to be had there. Quite a lot of it if you know what you’re doing.

Listen to Stephen’s podcast and see if you can’t just pull some more traffic your way with your Myspace account. You probably need to get over there and update things a smidge anyway!

Building True Social Authority

March 27, 2008

Below is what social authority begins to look like after you’ve mastered the art of social marketing. The list includes all my main profiles on social communities, social news sites, marketing groups, and remote blogs and pages. They are the sites I visit most frequently and get the most out of as far as traffic, links, and branding.

Note what Darren Rowse outlined in his video about keeping a consistent profile across all your sites as much as possible. Clicking through the sites below you’ll see that I’ve tried to do just that over time and it really helps with branding.

Social Power Linking is about showing up everywhere your target market surfs. This list isn’t complete. I just got tired of building it and stopped at what I thought were the main sites in my arsenal. I consider the value of belonging to the site (traffic it generates, link love it sends, and the value of the networks of contacts generated).

Digg - Pownce - Tumblr - Squidoo - LinkedIn - HubPages - YouTube - Twitter - WetPaint - SpongeFish

Tipzu - My 9rules - Revver - Mashable - Ojeez - Social Marketing Central - Blog Marketing Search

Delicious - PlugIM - Sphinn - MySpace - Facebook - Propeller - StumbleUpon - MyBlogLog - Blog Catalog

SelfGrowth Network - FriendFee - Fave - Entrecard - Windows Live Spaces

Add to the main sites above all the 2nd tier sites you inevitably join to test them out and check out the community “liveliness,” and the list quadruples in size.

Now, looking at the sample sites above, is it hard to imagine why social marketing works as well as it does? Everything we do in life, if it is worth doing at all, is a lot of work. Social marketing is no exception.

But while most of my competitors are doing traditional SEO, JVs, list mailing, and basically the same as everyone else in my niche, I am out there grabbing fresh prospects who are not on anyone’s list in my niche.

The “Born On Date” of the list members of many experts in my niche indicates a large number of people on all these lists have “expired.” You will find a good percentage of the most jaded, tight fisted prospects on great big lists whose owners have not been adding fresh prospects. Rather, they trade jaded, non-viable list members, clients, and customers back and forth depending on who is launching what at the time.

Freshening the customer base in my niche is where the money is.

People who haven’t been scammed or become jaded are far more receptive to good quality offers and tips than people the big gurus keep trading back and forth as they mail for each other.

Therefore I don’t need to have a list of 1 million people just to get by. The list of devoted, regular readers you create by authority blogging converts better, far better, than traditionally generated readerships and lists.

Consider that as you decide who to listen to when it comes to marketing online.

Every niche has this problem to a lesser degree. But none beats the IM niche for stale lists. It’s because everyone does joint ventures and simply “swaps spit” without bringing in significant new, fresh faces. Social marketing allows me to reach out and capture high quality prospects who surf the social scene and who have never heard of any of the gurus of internet marketing. (If you wanted to know one of my secrets - there it is!)

So, social marketing in any niche will also produce very fresh faces to inform and then sell to while increasing your search engine rankings, link popularity, branding, and overall niche authority. This is because most people do it wrong who are trying it without professional guidance.

Man cannot exist on “free blog tips” alone where social marketing is concerned!

Social Power Linkers “get it” and they are doing really well with social marketing compared to the results they were getting before learning Social Power Linking.

Authority Black Book 2008 Advance Peek

February 20, 2008

In early 2007 a free guide was released that started the conversation about social marketing. It set the standard for organized, professional marketing with social media.

The Authority Black Book was named the best free ebook for bloggers by Mashable.com, a social media community with over 5 million visitors per month (easily the largest community online dedicated to the latest news in social media and social marketing).

Early in 2007 no one but a handful of bloggers was really talking about social marketing as an organized marketing system. In 2006 we were doing training calls on social marketing for small to large websites when, again, no one was talking about anything social other than spamming Myspace to get a lot of friends.

So, a lot of people downloaded and continue to download the Authority Black Book every single day. It is recognized as the industry leader in social marketing education and we never charged a cent for it.

blackbookcover.JPG

After the success of the Black Book in 2007 and after “social marketing experts” have now dropped out of the trees from every direction since the Black Book was launched (where most of them learned what they are now training for big bucks), it is no small feat to come up with a great sophomore release.

But I think we’ve done just that. In the next week we are going to be releasing Authority Black Book 2008 to the public.

Right now we have advance copies in the hands of bloggers around the world and our clients at ASC and SPL are tearing through the guide as fast as they can to gain an edge or to get the scoop on the latest from an award-winning franchise before others get a chance to report on it.

This year’s Black Book has been drastically updated. Social marketing moves very fast and several adjustments and additions needed to be made in order to keep ahead of the pack and continue to provide the best free social marketing eduction on the web alive and strong.

It’s not just full of hardcore traffic driving tips and resources! This baby is even sexy!

It is hard to compete with shiny things like video and audio these days. But if we’d turned the Black Book into a video course it would be gigabytes in size and would choke even broadband connections for hours while it downloaded.

So, we made the thing easier to read and reference, and made it more exciting to interact with. If you have to read, at least this read will be entertaining and easy on the eyes!

abbpage2.JPG

Plus, the Black Book is now only 67 pages due to a new 2 column layout. (The original Word version was 117 pages, making it longer than the 2007 version.)

What Will You Learn?

You will learn something far different than the “just add water” social marketing Chia Pet experts are teaching. You will learn responsibility in social marketing and tactics that will boost your rankings in the search engines. You will learn to drive heavy, direct traffic from authority links you acquire with my methods without spamming or doing the short-term gain methods that don’t build critical mass for a real online business.

For example, did you know that all that traffic from Digg everyone else is talking about is all but worthless? Yikes! But its true and you need to know how to go far beyond simply getting traffic from the social networks themselves in order to get quality, measurable results from social marketing.

Its not the traffic from hitting the front page of Digg or any other social network that professional social marketers are actually concerned with, despite the shallow inferences many of the overnight experts make to the contrary.

Yes the major social sites combined get more traffic than Google or any of the other behemoths. This is the basis of our attraction to social marketing. But to say that because Facebook gets 30 some odd million visitors a month you should go set up a profile and then PAY for advertising on that network…well..that’s not actually anything close to social marketing.

We don’t pay for any advertising. Paying for advertising is the exact opposite of social marketing even if you do it on a social community.

What kind of traffic and links you get is important.

And the kind a lot of new social marketing experts are touting is the trashiest kind you can get for raw conversions and amount of time spent on site.

You really have to know what you are shooting for before embarking on a social marketing campaign, and that’s what makes the Black Book different than all the other courses (even the $2000 coaching programs) because I tell you what works and what to do instead of telling you what I think you want to hear about social marketing.

What have I got to lose by telling a few uncomfortable truths? I’m giving the thing away, right?

So stay tuned. Someone, somewhere is going to give you a shout out and let you know when you can pick up a copy of the 2008 Black Book.

When your get the nod, drop everything and grab that puppy because you are going to see a marked increase in high quality, converting traffic, higher search rankings on more keyword terms than you thought possible, and voluntary editorial links from virtually everyone who is considered an authority in your market niche.

Gotten Any Death Threats At StumbleUpon Lately?

January 21, 2008

Here’s how bad it gets when you are seen as an outsider and a marketing spammer on a social network like StumbleUpon…

Marty Weintraub posted just now about receiving death threats and calls for suicide (in ways he didn’t detail in his post) from Stumblers who feel like StumbleUpon is theirs and not to be used to market…anything.

Nevermind that everyone who uses StumbleUpon is marketing something. If not their own website, they are marketing their own profile. They are marketing by their interaction. To make friends and be “approved of” by the micro-society of StumblUpon they most identify with. To have the deepest, top profile. Whatever, everyone is marketing on StumbleUpon.

Regardless, read how Marty tries dealing with the outpouring of hatred by visiting his local FBI office to see what can be done about clearly illegal harassment by these hardcore Stumblers.

Social Power Linking Reviews

January 19, 2008

We are getting a lot of reviews for Social Power Linking and I wanted to share some with you so you could see how members feel about what’s inside. (You can’t trust me, I know.) :)

Video Reviews

There’s only one of these so far, but I am sure people will learn that a video review gets a lot more attention (hint hint) from me!

Hector Sanchez demonstrates how he got ranked by Google in under 10 minutes!

“…everybody says that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I created this video (using Jacks’s teachings) so you can see for yourself the power of what you could learn from the “social power linking” membership site.” -TechnoBuck.com

Other member reviews of Social Power Linking:

One of the many benefits of Social Power Linking membership is that we have an affiliate program. No big deal there. But ours is way different.

When someone, anyone, mentions Social Power Linking in a review we descend upon that site and Power Link the heck out of it. All the reviews above receive links and traffic from us. While we only link the review pages, the effect domain-wide is felt with increases in link popularity, more direct traffic from social media sites, and better rankings.

A service that would do such a thing would cost $1000+ if it was decent.

That’s the power of social marketing communities like ours. Together we can do things individual website owners cannot do by themselves.

This aspect alone is worth the strangely low price of entry for Social Power Linking.

Here are some other cool things offered:

Social Marketing Reports: Our reports show you how to use certain high traffic social sites for the best link juice and direct traffic.

A new report comes out every month. This month we released the Mashable.com report. There are tips in this one that would surprise the most avid users of Mashable!

Keyword Exchange: Members can exchange in-content links in search-engine-stimulating, white hat ways that makes link brokerages a thing of the past. Huge savings from having to buy links and a lot safer because our links are “editorial” in nature which is what Matt Cutts says Google looks for in distinguishing between good and bad links.

Buzz Group: Need friends? Our buzz group has been helping members since April 2007 and is the first such group on the internet. Your profiles and stories get an immediate white hat boost from being involved in Social Power Linking.

There’s more. Much more.

EACH of the above services could easily be split into their own memberships for the same price as Social Power Linking. I see people paying $30 a month for practically nothing in return. This is why there is so much buzz around Social Power Linking. The value is absolutely unmatched anywhere on the web for any type of membership service.

If you own a website, you need Social Power Linking. Period!

Social Networking Sites List: Top 100

January 15, 2008

I found a great page today in my BlogRush Widget that has an up-to-date list of the top social networking sites based on Alexa and Pagerank.

It’s nice not to have to do these lists all the time. This stuff changes so fast. New sites come rocketing up lists in rankings and traffic so fast. It definitely takes a blog “village” to keep up on who’s hot in the social marketing scene.

Check out Dulce Negrosyante’s Top 100 Social Networking Sites.
