Social Sites Are Dead

January 15, 2008

If you can’t believe everything you read, then pictures and music should impress you! The eulogy for social sites and social marketing has already been written.

Yep, we’re in a big Ebubble and we should all get out before we wind up like those schmucks in 2000!

The end is nigh!

Very, very funny! Can’t get that song out of my head.

Although, I’m afraid the vocals would not have made Billy Joel proud.

So, what do I do now? Fire all of my consulting clients and go get a real job?

    Never!

    Hi jack

    lol to funny

social marketing in sites may come and go but we all social market , we come out of a good movie , hey joe what a great film you should go see it.

Then you not only have Microsoft investing in facebook but there new sharepoint server software has a social marketing area

Its tonguie and cheek and needs to be taken as what it is a piece of link bait thats actually doing the reverse of what the video is all about

    Oh, so delightfully true.

I got some old tulip bulbs. Anybody want to buy one?

When it pops, just just find some friends and help blow a new one.

So what’s the problem, I don’t get it. I only wish I was smart enough to get in any of these. I still remember when we got our 1st pc at my office in 1984, my bosses were like what the hell is this thing and how is it going to do any good for us. Time for all of us not to be short sighted and create our own bandwagon.

    Great video.

My problem with the web 2.0 is its very nature.

99% of comments on Youtube are infuriatingly dumb and even on successful blogs or Forums (e.g. The Warriors), while I may find the occasional interesting post, I seldom find interesting conversations developing.

As for marketing videos, they are getting so LONG but remain so poorly made (I have a TV background) that I can’t believe they’ll be watched after the novelty has worn off.

This is a nano-second world,. Marketers need to understand that.

On the other hand, a simple site with great content will always get my attention.

This is so funny. I’ve seen this all over the Internet. However, if it’s dead, then why are we all here reading Jack’s blog and why are there so many people on My Space? I personally get a fair amount of traffic from social media so i can’t say that it’s dead.

I think it’s all in the way you come across. If you plow in there like a human ad, well what do you expect to happen?

This is very funny. As someone who’s waaaaaaay past college age, I loved the Facebook age references. I keep hearing that there are tons of “older” folk on Facebook. Where are they hiding?

They’re there, Virginia, you just can’t see them behind all the er… vanishing cream.

    Excellent video!

The first bubble was about “me, me, me” (corporate/venture). It imploded because people didn’t do their homework and fell for the lure of “easy” money.

The second bubble(?) is still about “me, me, me” but on a more personal level.

When are people going to learn the basic natural law of reciprocation - first you GIVE, then you get. ‘Nuff said.

Thanks for a great site Jack.
