BackType: Twitter for Comments

by Jack Humphrey

Thanks for Web Success Diva (Maria) for tipping me off on BackType.

This cool little app was featured at TechCrunch as well and for good reason.  It’s a killer idea!

What is BackType?

Think Twitter, only the people you follow and the content displayed is much more interesting and on topic.  Instead of people typing in what they are doing at the moment, BackType follows you around the web and re-posts the comments you make on blogs to your central BackType account.

It is an entirely new look at the web.  Ever wonder where your favorite bloggers comment and spend time?  Already I have found Michael Arrington and Darren Rowse commenting on blogs I hadn’t heard of before.  Here’s Maria’s profile.  Give her a follow for showing us all this cool tool!

Those guys know where to spend their time!  You can find some really cool places on the web to comment and engage in your niche when you start following people who are also in your interest area.

Thanks for the great review. BackType for content discovery is something that really surprised us when we first started developing it. It’s really interesting to see what people (that we follow in typical ways via blogs, twitter, etc) are reading and investing the time to comment on.

Glad you’re taking the time to explore BackType; let us know if you ever have any questions, feedback, etc @backtype

That was the first thing that caught my eye when I started checking my usual suspects out. Found about 5 blogs today that I’ve never been to before, but that are apparently places I need to be checking out and commenting on more often!

Really cool tool you have there - wish I had thought of it!

Thanks I guess :-)

It took me a while to get into Twitter and now I love it and it seems natural and I suppose BackType will too. I like the idea of it being a discovery tool - that gets me seriously interested.

I’m liking Back Type a lot. As it becomes more popular, the content is becoming much more interesting. I think those that use it need to remember that their comments, taken out of context are subject to being ignored if they don’t make some sort of relevant sense to what they are commenting to. (Notice this comment refers to what I’m commenting about).

So when commenting, it’s a learning experience to tie in relevancy. A simple “I like it!” does not peek my interest of the commenter nor what they are commenting on.
